The Kaj Franck Design Prize of 2017, awarded by Design Forum Finland, was given to clothing designer Anna Ruohonen. An exhibition displaying Ruohonen’s works is on show at Habitare Interior, Design & Furniture Fair 12–16 September 2018.
Anna Ruohonen has made a long, successful career in both Finland and France. She is a fine example of a fashion designer and entrepreneur who combines a strong creative approach with the technical mastery of clothing design skills. Anna Ruohonen has a distinct idiom that has found its shape and maturity over time and been influenced by her years of living in France. A courageous entrepreneur who has succeeded both domestically and globally, she sets an excellent example for young designers.
Anna Ruohonen’s exhibition at Habitare presents outfits from her Atelier Collection, made only to order, and from her ready-to-wear collection AR by Anna Ruohonen, which is made in Finland.
The Kaj Franck Design Prize, awarded by Design Forum Finland since 1992, is one of the most esteemed design prizes in Finland. It is awarded annually to a designer or team innovatively creating both high-quality industrial design and unique, one-off works. The prize brings forth the central spirit and principles of designer Kaj Franck’s (1911–1989) oeuvre: high-quality, democratic and functional design that solves practical challenges and opens up new opportunities for companies excelling in design. A particular merit is if the rewarded designer brings beauty and joy to everyday life and enhances the quality of life. The winners of the prize represent comprehensively top Finnish design. The prize sum of €10,000 is donated by the Finnish Fair Foundation.
The members of the prize jury of 2017 were CEO Petteri Kolinen / Design Forum Finland (Chairman of the jury), Advocate Pentti Kivinen / Finnish Fair Foundation, Professor Heikki Orvola, and Director Jukka Savolainen / Design Museum.
