Vuoden Huiput exhibition at Habitare
An exhibition of works by the winners of the Vuoden Huiput (‘Best of the Year’) competition, featuring the best creative Finnish design, will be shown again next autumn, from 11 to 15 September 2019, at Habitare at Messukeskus. The winners of Finland’s most significant creative design competition were announced on 11 April.
Organised since 1980 by the Grafia Association of Visual Communication Designers in Finland, Vuoden Huiput is a competition rewarding the best in Finnish advertising and design. Last year’s best creative designs were presented awards at the Vuoden Huiput 2018 Gala, which was held on 11 April 2019. Once again, the winning designs will be presented in their own exhibition at Habitare in September.
Habitare’s Vuoden Huiput 2018 exhibition will feature 61 works, comprising the best in 15 different categories. The Grand Prix, the main prize from among all the competition categories, was awarded to The Land of Free Press, a campaign designed by TBWAHelsinki for the Helsingin Sanomat newspaper. The creative design of the campaign at TBWAHelsinki was by Sami Kelahaara, Jyrki Poutanen and Erno Reinikainen.
“A smart idea, quick and perfectly timed execution, trust in the power of minimalism and a crystallised message, and the will to influence – that is the winning combination of this campaign. Helsingin Sanomat is working tirelessly to shed light on the state of this complex world, and this media initiative made this work visible at exactly the right moment”, says Päivi Häikiö, the head judge who selected the winner.
“The aim of the Vuoden Huiput exhibition is to present the previous year’s best works to the general public. What better place to present the best in creative design than Habitare, which, in 2018, attracted more than 50,000 visitors”, says the executive director of Grafia, Katri Soramäki. Grafia is an association for visual communication professionals.
