Habitare will be organised in September 2022 – the event invites to a dialogue on living and life

Habitare, Finland’s leading furniture, design and decoration event, will be organized again in September 2022. Habitare’s theme Reimagine – Time for Imagination calls for an open-minded reflection on what life and living will be like in the future. Habitare will be held at Helsinki Expo and Convention Centre from 7 to 11 September 2022.

During the second week of September, Helsinki Expo and Convention Centre will lay focus on the functionality and visuals of decoration, homes and facilities and explore the work of new and experienced designers. Habitare invites visitors to participate in a dialogue that discusses not only everyday life and living at this moment, but also future opportunities.

”We have been watching the world get back on track. Shops, piazzas, concert halls, museums and restaurants are filled with people. It is refreshing to listen to the buzz of people talking and laughing. Nothing replaces encounters and physical presence. We miss it and we need it,” says Laura Sarvilinna, Habitare’s Creative Director.

”Comprehensive experience is central in the field of interior design. For many companies in the industry, the pandemic has boosted revenue as people have focused on redecorating their homes.  For two years, we have operated in our own corners and have had to push aside the natural needs of humans, that are fuelled by social interactions and experiences. Habitare is for people and we are very much looking forward to offering experiences to our visitors again,” Sarvilinna continues.

At Habitare, preconceptions are put on hold

Habitare’s theme is Reimagine- Time for Imagination, and it invites to re-envision the future. The theme is even more relevant now that we are preparing for the post-pandemic period. As a society we are in a situation where we are free to imagine completely new ways of organizing our lives and way of living to meet our values and needs.

”Reimagine – Time for Imagination is a theme that we hope will open up discussions and reflection on what new we already may have developed and what is on its way. How should our actions change in order to guarantee better living conditions for future generations? Whether it is related to home, work or other everyday life,” says Laura Sarvilinna.

The biggest constraint on imagining a better world is not insufficient creativity in problem solving or insufficient resources – but a lack of imagination. The theme calls for letting one’s imagination free, pausing preconceptions and seeing past constraints. The theme Reimagine-Time for Imagination will be seen in September at Habitare, both in the programme and on the company stands.

Habitare’s exhibition architecture is built with respect for sustainable development

Designer Ilkka Suppanen will continue as Habitare’s exhibition architect. Suppanen is one of the most interesting designers at the moment; he is known for his light and forward-looking Scandinavian design. Suppanen is also the recipient of the 2020 Kaj Franck Award.

The exhibition architecture designed by Ilkka Suppanen is called Bridge Site, and it is built of wood in the spirit of sustainability. The idea is that the exhibition structures could be used for as long as possible. As the name implies, the exhibition architecture is inspired by bridge construction sites and their lightweight wooden structures. The exhibition architecture planned for Habitare 2020 will be shown at Helsinki Expo and Convention Centre in the autumn of 2022.

International friend Joseph Grima encourages designers to think about new ways of living

In 2022, Joseph Grima, a British architect, curator, researcher and journalist, will continue as Habitare’s international friend. As an international friend, Joseph Grima looks at Habitare and the Finnish design field from an international perspective and selects the most interesting trends of the event. The international friend engages in a dialogue with Habitare about design trends and phenomena. Habitare will launch such a dialogue this year with the theme Reimagine-Time for Imagination, which Joseph Grima also considers topical and relevant.

”We need to look at the world around us again. We need a new kind of imagination to be able to speak to the world we are entering after the pandemic. We need to make sure that this world is better, not worse than it is now. To do that, we need a lot of imagination, courage and energy and I believe that this theme is a good opportunity to spread this message,” says Joseph Grima.
