Habitare to highlight rising stars in design

Habitare to highlight rising stars in design

Habitare, Finland’s largest furniture, interior decoration and design event, will, also in 2019, introduce designers who are as yet unknown to the general public. The Talentshop and Protoshop events, which are targeted at designers and implemented in cooperation with the designer group Imu Design, will provide designers with an opportunity to showcase their skills and products at their own stands at Habitare. The comprehensive event of home and living, Habitare, will be held at Messukeskus in Helsinki from 11 to 15 September 2019.

As Finland’s leading home and design trade show, Habitare is rooted in the history of design, but the event would also like to introduce forward-looking content for the public, and to expand views on design and interior decoration. Young and newly graduated designers, in particular, tap into current phenomena and technologies, which makes them valuable design trendsetters at Habitare.

Finnish designers, or those educated in Finland, are given an impressive showing at Habitare, and they get to meet the end users of their products. Talentshop and Protoshop are two of the most popular sections at the Habitare event among both Finnish and foreign media, and consumers and international manufacturers.

Designers selected for Talentshop to have their own stands at Habitare

To be held for the fifth time, Talentshop will be part of The Block, Habitare’s area dedicated to new design, and the area will offer four designers or designer teams the opportunity to have their own stands within the framework of Talentshop. Talentshop would like to highlight designers who have preferably completed their studies and who have a strong vision, but who are not yet necessarily known to the public at large. The stands will enable the designers to widely and independently present their products and works to fair visitors. Talentshop will bring a new generation of talent to Habitare.

Over the years, Talentshop has launched participants into wider recognition, including the designer and artist Teemu Salonen and Tero Kuitunen, who has cooperated with Finnish manufacturers.

New product ideas exhibited at Protoshop

Every year at Protoshop, Habitare and Imu Design present 10–12 new design prototypes and future product ideas to keep an eye on. The aim of Protoshop is to highlight original and insightful works that also demonstrate product potential for manufacturers. The product ideas will be put on display for potential manufacturers to see in one of the most popular areas at Habitare.

In previous years, more than 100 prototypes, from furniture to small objects, have been presented at Protoshop, and products have become production items for Finnish companies such as Lapuan Kankurit and Hakola, and for international manufacturers, such as the Danish companies New Works and OK Design.

The designers to be featured at Talentshop and Protoshop will be selected by a jury that includes Elina Aalto, Krista Kosonen and Saara Renvall from Imu Design, and the creative director of Habitare, Laura Sarvilinna. The competition secretary will be the Habitare programme producer, Ida Ågren.

To be considered, designers should submit their portfolio and design entries to the jury by 14 February 2019. The designers selected for Talentshop and Protoshop will be announced on 6 March 2019. Detailed instructions for submissions: http://www.imudesign.org/protoshop/
