Habitare to again feature the popular Habitarematerials

Habitarematerials is a material library that is put together for the duration of the Habitare fair, enabling visitors to explore surface materials for their homes and to combine different materials. This will be the second time that the event has been held as part of Habitare. In 2019, when it was first featured, the material library gained huge popularity among fair visitors. Habitare will be held at Messukeskus in Helsinki from 7 to 11 September 2022.

What is Habitarematerials?

The Habitarematerials concept was created by Jussi Laine and Maria Klemetti Laine of NEMO Architects. The aim has been to give everyone access to an extensive material library, similar to those that designers use in their work. Habitarematerials is like a pick-and-mix shop for materials, where different material suppliers’ samples are on display in a fun and attractive way.

Fair visitors can create their own collages of materials, take photographs of them, and be inspired. Combining materials is a tool for people’s own projects, for establishing their own preferences, or just for having fun. Visitors are encouraged to share photographs of their own collages on social media.

The material library has been carefully curated to make it comprehensive and so that all the combinations are beautiful and interesting. The library also offers something new to seasoned professionals, as interesting new items have been acquired for the library’s selection from Finland and abroad. The library includes both classics and experimental new materials.

Weighing up material choices

Maria and Jussi want to challenge fair visitors to go below the surface when considering materials. Representatives of NEMO Architects will be present at the stand throughout the fair to discuss materials with visitors. The range of building and interior decoration materials is huge, and you can only obtain information if you are willing to make an effort to find it. The purpose of Habitarematerials is to provide fair visitors with a beautiful glimpse into the possibilities offered by materials, and to have people reflect on their material choices and make conscious choices for their homes.

Habitare Arena stage programme

Habitarematerials will be extended to the Habitare Arena stage. Every day, the stage will host a Collage of the day session, in which the most interesting designers will talk about their relationship with materials. The visiting designers will create their own collages for the session, which will then be the basis for the discussion on stage. Representatives of NEMO Architects will interview material suppliers in the What’s happening with materials? session, which is a great opportunity to learn about the evolution and future of materials. On Saturday, the stage will host the Habitarematerials TALKS panel discussion with expert guests, who will explore materials and their role in creating a green home. The panel discussion will provide ideas for making healthy interior decoration solutions.

The 2022 Habitarematerials will feature the following companies: Annala, Belle Arti, Bolon, Durat, Golvabia, Hollolan Viilu ja Laminaatti, Koolmat, Koskisen, Lauritzon, Nordic Floors, Novenberg, Novo Wood, Orient Occident, Osmo Color, Siparila, Tapettitehdas Pihlgren ja Ritola, Tikau, Tulikivi, and Wienerberger.
