Habitare Pro to explore authenticity and cultural heritage

The theme of the Habitare Pro professional event, Roots, will explore the relationship of architecture, lighting and interior design with our cultural heritage and origins, in the present and the future. The theme invites reflection on phenomena that are all about the need to see and experience authenticity. The first keynote speakers at Habitare Pro will come from the award-winning architects’ office Tham & Videgård from Sweden. The Habitare Pro event for design, architecture and spatial design professionals will be held from 12 to 14 September in 2018.

Habitare Pro is a premium B2B event, with an international programme of speeches as its centrepiece. Habitare Pro’s four-part programme will explore our roots and discuss phenomena that are all about our need to see and experience authenticity and the origins of things.

The first part of the programme, Reflect, comments on the attempt to get closer to nature in today’s architecture. Architecture directs our gaze to remote areas or brings something primitive back to cities. Considering cultural heritage and authenticity is important for aesthetic reasons but also for the maintenance of our civilization.

The theme of Origin, in turn, will highlight interior architecture, which is of great importance for corporate identity creation and communication. With globalisation, and its ever-fiercer competition and commercial concerns, a wise company communicates its origins and incorporates its roots in spatial planning and brand identity.

The importance of light in spatial planning and communication is at the core of the theme of Illusion. Skilful lighting design is used for creating illusions, for highlighting origins and authenticity, for corrective and presentation purposes, and for getting closer to something that is otherwise inaccessible.

The fourth theme of the programme, Heritage, will focus on traditional construction and craftsmanship, which are disappearing, although we are seeing a general increase in the appreciation of craftsmanship and the origins of things. Three traditional construction methods, with demonstrations and speeches, will be presented under this theme at Habitare Pro.

The first keynote speakers

Habitare Pro’s first keynote speakers will be Bolle Tham and Martin Videgård from the award-winning, Stockholm-based architects’ office Tham & Videgård. One of the most well-known works by Tham and Videgård is Treehotel, a tree-house hotel in Harads, in northern Sweden. The mirror surface reflects and makes the building blend in with the surrounding nature. Tham & Videgård Arkitekter is known for its experimental and innovative approach. Other projects by the office include the Kalmar Museum of Art, KTH School of Architecture, Moderna Museet Malmö and Västra Kajen housing.
