11 new interior decoration solutions and product ideas at Habitare

Habitare will introduce 11 new product ideas to manufacturers and the general public at the Protoshop exhibition. The prototypes presented at the exhibition, to be staged in the area showcasing the work of young designers, nicely reflect today’s home decorating trends. Smart storage solutions for small spaces feature prominently in this year’s display. The products are contemporary but their design idiom and materials are timeless. Habitare will be held at Messukeskus in Helsinki from 12 to 16 September 2018.

The curators of the Protoshop exhibition are the designers Elina Aalto, Krista Kosonen and Saara Renvall. With ten years of experience as curators of Protoshop, Aalto, Kosonen and Renvall have become experts in up-and-coming young Finnish design. The exhibition will offer an excellent, diverse view of what is currently happening in young design.

“What the designs selected for Protoshop have in common is an insightful way of finding new solutions to current interior decoration challenges, and the ability to distil the essential idea. The products are complex and rich in ideas but suitably reduced in form. The product ideas featured at Protoshop invariably demonstrate high-quality implementation, with highly perfected details. In our opinion, all the products selected for the exhibition have strong potential to make their way into production”, say Aalto, Kosonen and Renvall.

A generation of designers presented at the Protoshop10 exhibition

Habitare’s Protoshop exhibition will be held for the tenth time in 2018. To celebrate the anniversary, Protoshop will include the Protoshop10 exhibition, for which the curators, Aalto, Kosonen and Renvall, have chosen their favourite designs from over the years. The exhibition will feature ten products currently in production and ten products that are still interesting and relevant. You can look forward to a high-quality exhibition, with all the featured products representing the most interesting Finnish design.

“As we were curating the Protoshop10 exhibition, we went through all the designs exhibited over the years and were pleasantly surprised at how well they have stood the test of time. It was easy to choose a product from each year, and it would have been no problem to build an even larger exhibition. Almost an entire generation of Finnish designers has passed through Protoshop, and the exhibition will feature works by designers who have since enjoyed international success. We are looking forward to the exhibition coming together at the Habitare fair!”
