VENE 25 BÅT: The fishing boat of the show will be chosen for the first time in February

The Helsinki International Boat Show, Vene 25 Båt, will put extra focus on fishing and boating. The event will be held from February 7–16, 2025, at the Helsinki Expo and Convention Centre. In addition to the annually awarded open boat of the show, weekender or commuter cruiser of the show and cabin cruiser of the show, this time a prize will also be awarded to the fishing boat of the show.

The purpose of this selection is to highlight fishing, and particularly fishing boats, as the boat show annually presents several boats that are technically or structurally equipped for fishing. The winner will be chosen in February next year by a jury that evaluates the competing boats based on their suitability for fishing.

Visitors will also have the opportunity to vote for their favorite during the fair. The competing fishing boats will be clearly marked with signs, providing them with an additional level of visibility at the boat show.

"In the land of a thousand lakes, with its long coastline, there are many anglers who need a boat. By highlighting fishing boats in the fair's offerings, the choice of the right fishing boat is also made easier. Hopefully, the competition will also inspire Finnish boat builders to invest even more in the development of fishing boats," the jury hopes.

The fishing boat of the Vene 25 Båt fair will be selected by a jury consisting of prominent figures from the fishing media and the fishing equipment industry. The jury includes Jyri Kuusisalo from Kalastajan Kanava, Antti Zetterberg from Kalastus magazine and kalamies.com, freelance journalist Timo Sarkkinen from Metsästys ja Kalastus magazine, and Jani Mäkeläinen, a boat electronics expert from Ruoto Oy.

The competition is open to fishing boats that are exhibited at the boat show. The participating boats must be no more than two years old and should have at least four technical or structural features designed for fishing. Companies participating in the boat show can register their boats for the competition until November 29.

The boats will be announced in January and will then receive visibility through the boat show's channels. The winner will be announced during the second weekend of the boat show, on Saturday, February 15, 2025.

When the jury members work to select the winner, they consider how well the boat fulfills its purpose and why it is a good fishing boat. Particular attention is given to the level of equipment, the boat's layout, and structural and space solutions. The focus is also on new innovations, integration of technology in the design, functionality and ergonomics of the spaces, price-quality impression, and novelty value. Driving performance will not be assessed in this competition.

The Helsinki Expo and Convention Centre is organizing Northern Europe’s largest boating event, Vene 25 Båt, the Helsinki International Boat Show, from February 7–16, 2025, on behalf of the Finnish Marine Industries Federation Finnboat. The fair's boats have been selected at the Vene Båt show since 1999.
