Sustainability
Messukeskus is a pioneer in sustainability in the events industry and works in the areas of social, economic and environmental responsibility. Sustainability work is reported annually in accordance with the UN’s sustainable development goals.
- Together with our customers, we organize attractive and safe events that enable encounters.
- We are committed to sustainable choices in our operations.
- We invest in a safe working environment as well as the well-being of our employees and partners.
For us, responsibility is actions
Our environmental system has been ISO 14001-certified since 2009, and we are committed to achieving the goals of the UN’s sustainable development action programme, Agenda 2030. In accordance with the programme, we aim for sustainable development, which takes the environment, economy and people into account equally.
Solar power from our roof
The first solar panels were installed on the roofs of Messukeskus in the summer of 2019. Now they produce 533 MWh per year, about the annual consumption of 250 apartment buildings. The solar power plant opened in cooperation with Helen power company increases the share of renewable energy in our energy use. At the same time, the need for cooling is reduced, as the solar panels also have a shading effect.
Did you know that you too can become a solar electricity producer by renting your own nameplate from the Messukeskus solar power plant?
An energy-efficient venue
Messukeskus uses the latest building technology: solar electricity, geothermal heat, district cooling, heat recovery and LED technology. Within a decade, we have halved our water consumption, reduced heat consumption by a fifth and electricity consumption by 15%.
The Energy Agency and Motiva recognised us as an energy-wise event center in 2017. We are participating in Motiva’s energy efficiency agreement and aim to achieve significant savings in consumption through our energy conservation programme.
99% of waste for reuse
All of our premises have recycling facilities. Recycled paper and cardboard, bio-waste, recycled wood, glass, plastics, metal waste and carpets are sorted in our eco-points. During the construction and dismantling of events, our customers are assisted by an environmental supervisor.

Climate actions, work and income for the capital region
Messukeskus aims for sustainable development, where the environment, economy and people are taken into account equally.
Together we can do more
UNICEF Finland
Our cooperation with UNICEF Finland enabled UNICEF to acquire 56,100 bags of life-saving peanut paste for malnourished children. That amount is enough for 1335 children for two weeks. We have also supported UNICEF’s Ukraine collection efforts. You can find UNICEF Finland’s stand at many of our events.
Support for learning
Messukeskus offers a unique learning environment for Ammattiopisto Live students. Students can do cleaning and maintenance work, support the experience of our exhibitors as booth attendants and handle customer service duties during events.
Messusäätiö is involved in many things
Suomen Messusäätiö supports Finnish know-how by rewarding successful and developing projects. The foundation annually distributes around 400,000 euros worth of scholarships, grants and recognition and incentive awards to experts in various fields. Messusäätiö is one of our company’s shareholders.
