PacTec trade fair themes: the digital dimension, design, recycling and consumer habits

The packaging and materials handling industry will convene at Messukeskus Helsinki, Expo and Convention Centre at the PacTec exhibition in 20-22 September. In addition to the fair stands, a wide range of brief information sessions will be available for professionals, with themes ranging from the digital dimension, design, recycling and changing consumer habits in relation to packaging.

Retail trends consultant Cate Trotter from London keeps a close eye on future trends in consumer behaviour. In her presentation at the trade fair, she will provide an expert insight on how changes in retail displays in shops influence packaging.  Insight specialist and designer Saara Järvinen, of Kuudes Kerros Helsinki Oy, will talk about consumer awareness and consumers’ expectations with respect to packaging.

Packaging is continuously caught in the crossfire between strategic branding and cost savings, and will come under even more pressure from the digital dimension. Sanna Suvanto-Harsaae, a specialist in international marketing and digital transformation, will reveal how diginative consumers influence packaging. When consumers purchase online, they do not actually touch the goods until they receive them at home. This enhances both the importance of packaging as the product’s image bearer and the practical demands set for physical packaging. Design plays a key role in the creation of packaging – Stefan Lindfors will give a presentation on the topic on 20 September, the first day of the trade fair.

The results of recent research by Aalto University and the Association of Packaging Technology and Research PTR show that packaging is a productive and profitable investment. Speakers Maria Kuusisto of Aalto University, Leena Kauppi of Linkit Concept and Riitta Halonen of Remes & Packart will present a new ROI calculating tool at the PacTec exhibition.

Recycling of packaging is always an interesting topic and we will hear about current practices in the recycling and recovery of plastic packaging. Juha-Matti Katajajuuri of LUKE, Natural Resources Institute Finland, will brief the audience on the environmental impacts of packaged products and packaging, and the benefits and challenges associated with packaging from the perspective of the circular economy and food wastage.

The PacTec exhibition will be held at Messukeskus Helsinki, Expo and Convention Centre from 20 to 22 September 2016. Concurrent events: PlasTec, FoodTec and SignTec.
