A century in the centre of events

A century in the centre of events

Messukeskus began its success story a century ago. The Finnish Fair Corporation was founded on 19 October 1919, as Finland was taking its first steps as an independent nation, with the mission to promote Finnish business through fruitful encounters.

Our first fair was held in the summer of 1920 outside St John’s Church in Helsinki, amidst a bustling startup spirit. The fair grew to become a massive public festival and the largest media event of its day. Over 120,000 visitors from around the country flocked to the fair, nearly doubling the population of Helsinki at the time.

The event also marked the birth of an exhibition industry in independent Finland. This year, we celebrate our centenary. Happy 100th birthday, Messukeskus!

Our journey has since taken us to the former exhibition hall in Töölö and most recently to Pasila and the largest event venue in Finland.

In 1935, the Finnish Fair Corporation had own premises built by the main road of Helsinki. At that time, It was the largest exhibition venue in the Nordic region.

Today, we organise some one hundred public and trade fairs each year, as well as around 2,000 meetings, congresses, parties and corporate events. We make history through hosting global summits, unforgettable entertainment productions and world-class guests. Our own history features many remarkable individuals from Sibelius to David Bowie, Alvar Aalto to Karl Fazer, and Urho Kekkonen to Barack Obama.

A century of success proves the effectiveness of our business concept. Messukeskus has always been and will continue to be an unforgettable beginning to countless dreams.
